Executive Dream Home

Welcome to Stonehaven Farm, the new home of retired owners and horse breeders, the McBrides.  After living in an older “tear-down” farmhouse for many years, the McBrides finally decided to build their dream home.

The classic stone and brick exterior, stone landscaping, and contrasting entry door system creates a dramatic exterior to this home.  Add to this the view across the hillsides of Brock Township from the back deck (Trex decking with tempered glass railing). The 17’ ceilings in the Great Room accommodate oversized architectural windows for another scenic view of the countryside.

The stunning interior features numerous wood columns dividing the Great Room from the Dining Room and the foyer.  The floors are finished in Acacia hardwood, and the trim is a custom heritage design.  The oak stairs and railing built by Gilbert + Burke’s carpenters wind down to a completely finished basement, with a scenic walkout.  Walking down the hall from the grand front entrance, one sees the Library/Office where a transom window was designed and installed by Gilbert + Burke above French doors.  The Great Room includes a custom designed fireplace mantle, gas fireplace with TV installed above (mantle designed/ fabricated by Gilbert + Burke) The Master Ensuite combines a corner jet-tub with large walk-in shower, with marble tile throughout.  The kitchen is outfitted with black walnut cabinetry, granite countertops, a pantry closet, and a spacious island with a sink.  Warm and gracious colours invite the visitor in further to enjoy the views throughout this home.

The home’s floor plan allows for main floor use of the home by the owners to perform all the activities of daily living, a smart choice for retirement living.  All interior doorways were sized at 36” width, incorporating the principles of universal design.   The finished basement provides bedrooms, recreation space and washrooms for visiting children and grandchildren.

The home is EnergyStar registered (in actuality, the performance tests indicated an R2000 standard) using an ICF basement foundation, insulation under basement slab, 2x6 wall exterior wall construction with a combination of exterior Codeboard and interior spray-foam to create a very tight building envelope.

The customer is extremely happy with their new home, and with the comfort, space and enjoyment it gives them every day.  It was “well worth waiting for”.
